- Current Master student of Geosciences, Leah Thompson received one of Texas Energy Council scholarships in 2019. The Texas Energy Council is a collection of over 25 professional organizations united to educate the present and the future of the energy sector. The Texas Energy Council Scholarships is the one of the largest council program.

- Professor, Students Win Honors from Society of Exploration Geophysicists
- We are sorry to report that Emeritus Prof. James L. Carter passed away on Sept. 21, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Friday Oct. 11 in the UTD Davison-Grundy Alumni Center. All are invited to attend, pay their respects and share their memories. The family requests that instead of flowers, donations in James’ memory to the James L. Carter Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated.
- Dr. Robert Stern awarded the 2019 International Prize of the Geological Society of Japan
- Dr. Matthew Brzostowski has given $25,000 to set up the Dr. Matthew Brzostowski Scholarship/Fellowship Fund to support undergraduate and graduate geosciences students. Brzostowski wants to share his passion for the geosciences, and hopes the fund will help someone pursue a similar career.
- Dr. Bob Finkelman was the first person to write a thesis on the returned lunar samples; the youngest principal investigator of the returned lunar samples; and one of the few people who worked on samples from Apollo 11, 12 (Surveyor 3), 14, 15, 16, 17, and Luna 16.
